The couple hailed from Dallas and had known each other since their high school days. The duo met in their first year at Highland Park High School. The two began dating in their senior year. However, they chose different colleges. Scottie went to the University of Texas, while Meredith went to Texas A&M.

This was a testing time for the couple because they had to maintain a long-distance relationship for four years. Later, in June 2020, the two got engaged. It was the American golfer who proposed to his beloved, while they were hiking at Arbour Hills Nature Preserve in Texas.

When Meredith was in her senior year at Highland Park High School, she knew her then boyfriend and now husband, Scottie Scheffler, was good at golf. However, it was a commercial featuring Scottie that left Meredith in awe. At the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions, Scottie shared the incident. Back in 2013, the American golfer won the US Junior, and in 2014, when he was a high school student, he got an opportunity to play in the Byron Nelson. So, at that time, he visited Meredith’s house and was having some conversations with her father, when a commercial popped up. After watching Scottie in the commercial, Meredith became fully impressed. Recalling the moment, Scottie said:

“I won the U.S. Junior in 2013, and in 2014, I had the opportunity to play in the Byron Nelson as a high school student. I was at [Meredith’s] house one day, we were hanging out with her dad or something, and the commercial came on TV. And she was kind of looking around. She was like, ‘Wait a minute, isn’t that next weekend? Isn’t that what you’re doing?’ She’s like, ‘Wow, that’s cool!'”
