Tennis star Andy Murray and his family have been left devastated following the death of his grandmother just weeks after his grandfather passed away. Judy Murray’s mother, Shirley Erskine, died last week, it has been announced, shortly after the loss of her father Roy Erskine, who was a famous footballer.
The news was announced by Murray’s cousin, who paid an emotional tribute to her.
Andy’s cousin, actress Ailsa Erskine, shared a poignant collection of 19 photographs honouring her grandmother’s life. In a moving tribute, Ailsa described her as ‘one of a kind’ and someone who ‘lit up every room’.
“I will miss her so much but there will not be a day that goes by that I won’t think of her and take a little bit of her with me. What a life she led and I will count my lucky stars to have grown up with such a light of a woman in my life. Sleep well granny, mini, fairy b, gran gran, Shirley E, my best friend. Thanks for giving me the gift of the gab. Say hi to Grandpa for me. Love you so much.”
