It hasn’t been an ideal start to the season for Iga Swiatek, who’s yet to hit the same heights we saw last year.

Coming off a 2025 season that included her first Wimbledon title, she’s found consistency hard to come by, with a string of early exits at WTA tournaments raising questions.

That stretch led Swiatek to split with coach Wim Fissette and bring in Francisco Roig in hopes of turning things around.

But the results haven’t picked up just yet. Swiatek also had some bad luck at the Madrid Open, where illness played a part in her third-round exit.

Isner backs Swiatek ahead of Roland Garros

John Isner, however, isn’t too concerned about her chances at Roland Garros. Speaking on the Nothing Major Show, he said:

“If she can get off to a good start and win a couple of matches, maybe she can get through a tough match early, she can start to feel more comfortable and a place where she is extremely comfortable.

“So, no, I am not going to pin her hopes at Roland Garros all on her Rome result.

Iga Swiatek, seeded fourth in Rome, has been handed a bye into the second round.

There, she will play Caty McNally or Daria Kasatkina in the Italian Open second round.

Should she progress, a third-round meeting with either 28th seed Emma Navarro or Elisabetta Cocciaretto would follow.

This year’s event also gives her a chance to make up ground in the rankings heading into Roland Garros.

With only 65 points to defend after an early exit to Danielle Collins last year, there’s plenty of room for gain.

If things go her way, Swiatek could pick up as many as 935 additional ranking points this week.
